Installing CardScan version 8 on Windows 7 64 bit.

November 4th, 2011

A lot more people these days are buying computers with Windows 7_64 bit and come to realize that what used to work in Windows XP no longer works in Windows 7, 64bit Operating System. You have two options, buy a new hardware that is supported with your new operating system or try installing the software in Windows XP Mode.

To install Windows XP Mode, your computer has to support it, check Microsoft’s website here for more explanation of what Windows XP mode is and how to check if your computer supports Windows XP mode by clicking this link.

If your new computer supports Windows XP mode, make sure first you turn it on in the system BIOS, then install the Windows XP Mode software.  After you install it you must assign a password to the login. (I usually assign the same password as the password to Windows 7, that way I’ll always remember it.)

Now that you have installed Windows XP Mode, insert the CardScan installation CD, and install it in Windows XP.

Once you install the software make sure the CardScan is connected via USB, the software will recognize CardScan and give you two options,

  • CardScan 6
  • CardScan 6 II

Select the correct option and follow the steps to finish the installation.  Once the installation is completed, you can start to scan your business cards.

The only problem to this installation is that you can only scan in Windows XP mode and you can view the contacts either in Windows XP mode or Windows 7.

To open CardScan in Windows 7 follow the steps below:

  • Click Start
  • All Programs
  • Windows Virtual PC
  • Windows XP Mode Applications
  • CardScan

When you restart your computer and run Windows XP Mode, there is one more step you must perform before CardScan can work, on Windows XP Mode, on the top of the remote desktop there are four menu items.

Click on USB drop down and select Corex CardScan, this will activate (enable) the USB device for scanning.  If you forget this step, CardScan won’t recognize the device and you’ll get an error message.

Welcome to My Corner of the Net. “Nettechy.com”

November 4th, 2011

For a long time Nettechy.com was an IT consulting company started a few years ago then it was transformed to a website that only hosted pictures from my travels with my Land Rover with my Land Rover club, Southern California Land Rover where I’m an active club member and a member of Board of Directors.

Since there are thousands of other sites that cater to Land Rover owners with their forums and Social Networks like FaceBook and Google+, SCLR.ORG, LRRForums, DiscoWeb.org, LRO, LRE, LandRoversOnly.com, RangeRovers.net RoverParts.com, D-90.com and so and so forth, I have come to the conclusion that my website no longer needs to be a hosting site to my fellow Land Rover Owners and their pictures of their travels.

I have decided to set my website as a blog to cater to the needs of the tech community and the users who wish to know about technical Q&A that deal with mainly Microsoft Operating System issues, Microsoft Office Issues and any other software that I’ve had the privilege of installing on Microsoft Operating Systems from the DOS era to Windows 2008 Enterprise, From MS Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, Numara TrackIT to AMS Sagitta Online, from Symantec Back up Exec to Trend Micro Office Scan.

If I’ve learned one thing working as a Systems Administrator in the last 14 years is, if you don’t know the answer you can either ask all your IT friends or Google it.  You’ll find the answer because hundreds if not thousands of other people like yourself have been asking the same question and have been getting the answers on the net.
